Each Bangkok Poetry event usually features a new piece of artwork by Kathy MacLeod. For the SYMBIOSIS event, we have a special guest artist: TRODZA!

About Bangkok Poetry

Bangkok Poetry is a reading series devoted to the lyrical, the risky, the unexpected. Happenings are (roughly) every six weeks.

The next happening is scheduled for Wednesday, 2 September 2015.

Performers include poets, storytellers, fiction writers, filmmakers, & multimedia performance artists. If you're interested in performing (original work, under 7 minutes) please contact: bangkokpoetry [at] gmail [dot] com.

After a hiatus of a few years, Bangkok Poetry found a new home at WTF Cafe and Gallery. For 7 years the series was hosted by Wesley Hsu at the About Cafe and the Goethe Institute. Bangkok Poetry is hosted by Colin Cheney.

FAQs

I'm interested in performing, but I don't write poems--is there space for me at Bangkok Poetry?

Yes. Our favorite happenings are those where we have a true multimedia experience of performance and art. An ideal evening might feature a Thai graphic novelettist, an English rapper, an American novelist, a Burmese poet, a Thai DJ, and an Irish filmmaker. As long as you feel like your work "sings" in some compelling, exciting way, it has a place at Bangkok Poetry.

I'd like to perform, but I'm not sure I have something on the theme. Can I still perform?

Yes. The theme is there as an artistic challenge and an opportunity to create something new. Sometimes we reserve a few spaces for performers who will engage the theme, there are always a few spots available for performances that choose to, well, creatively ignore the theme.

But if you've been working on a short film for some time and want to share it with an audience, or you've been working on a short story or a poem or a rap or a new song, we would be thrilled to have you as part of our evening.

About WTF Cafe and Gallery

Opposite is an event space located in a renovated mid-20th century-style shophouse building, minutes from BTS Thong Lo. Created by 2 founders of WTF Cafe and Gallery, Somrak Sila & Christopher Wise.

WTF: a refuge of a bar with cool drinks, great tapas and interesting art. It aims to be a creative social club, with a multi-tasking concept; Food-Drink-Art-Friendship. We aim to host the most imaginative local and international art talent, while cultivating the good-times experience of bistro-bar culture in Bangkok. The most important virtue of dining/drinking is connection: friends, neighbors and lovers sharing time together. WTF will make connections between people, food, art, drinks and ideas. Tuesday-Sunday 6pm-midnight+.
